What is luxury vinyl plank (lvp)?

Luxury vinyl plank is a manufactured flooring material with a decorative wood-look layer and a protective wear surface. It offers many colors and textures without the same refinishing or humidity-care routine as real wood.

Why homeowners choose LVP

LVP can be a practical choice for family rooms, rental properties, and other active spaces. Many products handle everyday spills well and provide an accessible route to a consistent wood-look floor. Compare the complete product specification, not just plank thickness.

LVP versus hardwood and engineered wood

Real wood provides natural variation and, for suitable floors, future refinishing. LVP prioritizes practical maintenance and a manufactured surface. It cannot be sanded into a new finish; damaged planks generally need replacement. It can still scratch, dent, or discolor, depending on the product and use.

Waterproof plank does not mean waterproof room

Even with a waterproof product, water can reach the subfloor, walls, and seams around fixtures. Slab moisture, leaks, and drainage issues need attention before installation. Product approval matters for basements, sunrooms, and spaces with unusual temperature changes.

Our process

Careful preparation. A method that fits your floor.

The exact products and steps depend on the floor and the agreed scope. Manufacturer instructions guide the installation and finish system.

  1. Choose the right construction

Review wear layer, locking system, intended use, temperature limits, and floating versus glue-down requirements.

  2. Prepare a flat, stable base

Check the subfloor and address irregularities before installation. Too much movement under a plank can stress joints and affect how the floor feels.

  3. Install without trapping movement

Use the specified expansion gaps and transitions. A floating floor must remain free to move; cabinets and heavy fixed installations require planning according to the flooring instructions.

  4. Finish transitions and explain care

Fit appropriate edges and transitions. Use approved cleaners and furniture protection, and address spills promptly.

Questions homeowners ask

Is thicker LVP always better?

No. Core quality, wear surface, locking joint, installation requirements, and the intended room all matter.

Does LVP need extra underlayment?

Only if the manufacturer permits or requires it. Adding padding beneath an attached-pad product can damage its locking system.
